Department Overview
The UConn Police Department is a unit of the Division of Public Safety at the University of Connecticut. The other constituent
parts of the Division of Public Safety are the Fire Department and Locksmith Services. The UConn Police Department is a fully functional
police agency with the same statutory authority as any municipal police department in the State of Connecticut. The Department is
responsible for, and its primary mission is, the protection of lives and property at the University of Connecticut and all adjacent areas
within the jurisdiction of the UConn Police Department. This includes the main campus in Storrs and the regional campuses located statewide.

The UConn Police Department is the largest of the University Police Departments in the State of Connecticut. The University of
Connecticut is the Flagship University of the State's higher education system. To accomplish the goals of the department requires
the skills and talents of the professional men and women who work for the UConn Police Department and who faithfully serve the
University community seven days a week twenty four hours a day.
Officers
The UConn Police Department currently has a force of 76 authorized sworn Police Officers of all ranks. 51 of those Officers are assigned to the Main Campus in Storrs with the remainder assigned to Substations throughout the state.

The University of Connecticut Police Department derives police authority and precinct boundaries from two separate sources:
Connecticut General Statute 10a-142 states:
The jurisdiction of [the UConn Police Department] shall extend to the geographical limits of the property owned or under
the control of the above institutions, and to property occupied by The University of Connecticut in the town of Mansfield.
In addition, members of the UConn Police Department are appointed special constables within the Town of Mansfield
