The University of Connecticut Police Department is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency.

Officer Conduct

The police department expects a very high level of professional conduct from all employees; however, members of the department frequently perform their duties in a manner exceeding the highest standards of the department. The official commendation of such performance and the arrangement of appropriate publicity shall be provided by the department, with your assistance. Please take a moment to write or call the police department and ask for a supervisor. Offer your personal thoughts which will be conveyed to the Chief of Police and then formally to the officer him/herself.
The department strives to improve the quality of police services. The provision of meaningful and effective complaint procedures works to retain citizen confidence in the integrity of police actions. This engenders community support and confidence in the police department.

The department will accept and investigate all complaints of officer misconduct or wrongdoing from any citizen or agency employee. Following a thorough and impartial examination of the available factual information, a finding is made that will either sustain the complaint and possibly lead to disciplinary action, or exonerate the officer(s).

Annually, the statistics regarding officer commendations and complaints of misconduct are entered onto the police department homepage. These statistics are also available upon request.

Informational flyers explaining the commendation or misconduct investigation process are available at all UConn Police locations or can be mailed by request. Call (860) 486-4808.
